There are always moments that especially stand out to me at every single wedding. I could be completely focused on logistics, perfecting place settings and other decor, or directing my team on our very thorough list of to do’s. But there is always at least one moment that stands out to me at each wedding, and many times, it’s these moments that I remember for months and even years after I’ve hugged the newlyweds at the end of the night.
For Lauren and Phillip’s wedding at Lowndes Grove Plantation in Charleston, SC…there wasn’t just one moment; there were several. From Lauren and all of her bridesmaids arriving to the plantation on the morning of their wedding in smiles and positive attitudes… to loading everyone up on the trolley to head to the church… to pulling Lauren’s parents to the side so she could give them a very special gift before she walked down the aisle… to meeting their dog-sitter to bring their sweet pup, Banks, to see his new official mom & dad… and all the way to the end of the night when we sent them off on their honeymoon… it was a PERFECT day. A perfect celebration. And a perfect way to round out an incredible planning experience with these two lovely people and their families.
Now I would love for you to not only see some of our favorite photos that Kristy Roderick took from this amazing day but to also hear about the wedding from Lauren herself…
How did you two meet? Phillip and I met the night of my 22nd birthday through mutual friends at Clemson. We had an immediate connection from the beginning and everyone around knew it!
How long have you been together? Phillip and I were good friends for many years, but we officially dated for 2 years before he proposed.
What was your favorite moment and/or detail from your wedding? While everything was fabulous, I think as a couple our favorite part was being together on the dance floor all night with our friends and family. Having everyone that you love come together for an evening is so special.
How was your experience working with us? AMAZING!. Everything was taken care of. My mom and I are not big planners, so we knew we would need help. From the very first conversation I had with Shannon, we immediately hit it off and I knew she was the planner I wanted to work with (and this was after I had already interviewed 3 others.) From helping me choose a location, to bridesmaid dresses, tastings, etc, she was there every step of the way. A week or so before the wedding, several people told my mom and I that they thought it was crazy how calm we were. We trusted Shannon and knew she had everything under control...and we were right!
What would you have done differently during your planning process? Not ask as many people their opinion. I am a big people pleaser and really cared what other people thought. It wasn't until the end of the process that I realized it was about Phillip and I and not everyone else.
How would you describe your overall wedding experience? Incredible. From the planning, to our sparkler exit, everything was perfect. And if it wasn't, we had no idea because Shannon and her team took care of it. Our wedding day was absolutely a dream come true.
Did you see each other before the wedding? If not, did you like waiting, or would you have done it differently? Tell us why and why not! Phillip was very adamant about not doing a first look. I am very traditional, so I did not mind at all. While I believe our nerves would have been a little less if we have done a first look, I would not change a thing! It was so special seeing each other for the first time as I walked down the aisle.
Tell us about your dress! Where did you find it, how did you choose it, and how did you know it was "the one"? It was only the second day of looking for a dress. I knew exactly what I wanted, and luckily when I tried it on it was everything I had ever dreamed of! I wanted something timeless, but something I could also make my own. The Gown Boutique helped me find my dress, while Kira Elizabeth Design created the most beautiful bolero to complete my dream dress.
What was the first song you danced to as Newlyweds? Father-Daughter Dance song? “You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne for our First Dance and “The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra for Father-Daughter Dance
What were you most anxious, nervous, or fearful about regarding your wedding day, and what was the outcome? To be completely honest, I think I was most nervous about the ceremony and saying my vows, ha! Also, being emotional and not keeping it together. The moment I locked eyes on Phillip, all of my nerves went away, and I was completely calm. Most people would probably say they would be nervous about everything going smoothly, but there was never a doubt that Shannon and her team had EVERYTHING covered!
What wedding planning advice would you offer to couples who are currently planning their wedding? There will be a lot of people putting in their "two cents." Sit back and think about what you want as a couple, and not necessarily what will please others.
Any tips on what to bring/pack for your wedding day? Champagne and comfortable shoes, ha! But really, Shannon had all of the little things for emergencies. Because the day gets so hectic, I made sure to have one bag and kept everything together. It made things much easier at the end of the night.
Any tips on how to prepare to work with Bespoken? Be prepared to relax and enjoy every moment of planning. Shannon makes everything easy!
Last piece of advice to a new bride and/or groom? Savor every moment. It goes by so fast!
