Casey contacted us back in February to help plan hers and Lindsay’s wedding at Greenville Country Club. She knew she needed help in coordinating her wedding, but after speaking with her, we realized she was also looking for some guidance with the design plan. After our conversation, Casey ended up hiring us for our Coordination & Design Package, and we got started right away.
Casey wanted their wedding to be simple and sophisticated with an autumn color palette full of cinnamon, mauve, peach, gold, and ivory colors. The couple opted for a cocktail-style reception (with one of the best, most mouth-watering charcuterie displays I’ve ever seen) in the ballroom at GCC and on the veranda overlooking the golf course. For seating, we had a few round tables and chairs, several cocktail tables, and a beautiful lounge seating area. Wanting to create a more custom look to their stage for the band, we chose paint swatches to match the color palette, and Professional Party Rentals created a custom stage front that turned out beautifully.
I’ve asked Casey to tell us more about their wedding in her own words, so I hope you enjoy some of our favorite photos from Victor Villatoro Photography as well as a description of the wedding from the bride herself…
How did you two meet? Lindsay and I met almost five years ago through friends! I was home for the weekend from Columbia, and he was in Greenville for Furman Homecoming...it just so happened that I had a friend moving back to Greenville that wanted to meet some of my friends, and our paths crossed. I honestly didn't want to go out that night. I only went out because my friends wanted to meet each other (#girltribes!) so they'd have a girlfriend in the area. My hair was literally in a ponytail, and I threw on my favorite red cashmere sweater (I didn't even take a coat!) and had almost no makeup on. Then we met! I was of course freezing and he offered me his vest :)
How long have you been together? Over 4 years....close to five! We became *official* January 11, 2014... it's a whammy...his birthday is January 9th, dating anniversary was the 11th, and my birthday is the 19th!
What was your favorite moment and/or detail from your wedding? Honestly, I had a moment walking down the aisle with my dad when I realized I was "moving on" and started to ugly cry but then I saw Lindsay and saw him tearing up and knew that the best part of my life was about to happen....
How was your experience working with us for your wedding? It was wonderful! I know that our wedding situation was different but we loved working with you and watching our vision come to life.
What would you have done differently during your planning process? Hired ya'll from the start! We were so back and forth on eloping and family issues that I didn't get to enjoy the whole process.
How would you describe your overall wedding experience? A whirlwind! In the end, it was such a beautiful wedding and came together perfectly. I began planning on my own and booked several vendors, so at times it felt like so many pieces to the puzzle and panic they wouldn't all fit together in the end.
Did you see each other before the wedding? If not, did you like waiting, or would you have done it differently? Tell us why and why not! We did! It was really nice having a moment with him before everything happened. We had a moment to just take in everything that was happening. Things I would have done differently are the spot it took place and while I love seeing my reaction to him, I would have loved more pictures of his reaction.
Tell us about your dress! Where did you find it, how did you choose it, and how did you know it was "the one"? Oh my goodness.... I love my dress. I got it at the Poinsett Bride in Greenville, SC. I went to try on dresses just to get a feel for different styles with no intention of finding "the one" and it was the third one I had picked out. I put it on, and I just saw me. I knew it was the one when I felt completely comfortable and beautiful...and it has pockets! It was exactly my style, it was a ballgown, sweetheart neckline with the most beautiful lace and burned out organza. Traditional and simple.
What was the first song you danced to as Newlyweds? Father-Daughter Dance song? Our first dance song was "Golden Hour" by Kacey Musgraves. Lindsay and I took dance lessons at Carolina Dance Studio and I am so glad we did! My dad and I danced to "Forever" by the Beach Boys. I would definitely recommend talking on the phone or in person with your band :)
What were you most anxious, nervous, or fearful about regarding your wedding day, and what was the outcome? Everyone getting along and having a great time! I was so nervous our wedding would be a "dud" and boring or that some family drama would happen. Everyone had a wonderful time at the wedding! I've had so many people so how great the food was and the music- I honestly don't remember if flew by! And everyone got along and had a great time!
What wedding planning advice would you offer to couples who are currently planning their wedding? Don't let anyone steer you away from what you want. I wanted natural and organic floral arrangements and fought to find the perfect person. I am so glad I stood my ground because Suzie with Statice Events went above all expectations.
Any tips on what to bring/pack for your wedding day? Your dog! hahaha I ended up bringing one of my dogs to get ready with us!
Any tips on how to prepare to work with Bespoken? Just start from the beginning and really utilize the face to face meetings!
