Hannah contacted us several months ago, asking to help plan and coordinate her fall wedding. We loved chatting with her, and when we finally got to meet face-to-face at an initial walkthrough at her wedding venue, we knew we were the right fit for each other. She is super sweet and fun, and hers and Zach's wedding is going to be incredible. We're excited to introduce you to her and their love story today... along with these beautiful photos from Wesley Peterson Photography!
How did you two meet? How long have you known each other? We were introduced by mutual friends. We have most of the same friends, but somehow the two of us didn't cross paths. One summer, our friends decided we should all rent a house in Myrtle Beach, SC. We were introduced that week, hit it off, and the rest is history. We will celebrate 5 years together in September.
Where do you guys like to go on your dates? We don't go on a whole lot of "dates." Our favorite thing to do together is cook so most of our date nights consist of cooking dinner at home, opening a bottle of wine and eating while we watch a good movie. Those are my favorite nights.
What is your favorite restaurant or type of food? I thought about this question for a second too long, and I heard Zach in the back of my head saying "Really Hannah...Japanese." I love Japanese food. Sushi, Hibachi, it doesn't matter, I just love it. Zachary is Cuban and absolutely loves authentic Cuban food. He says his grandmother made the best, but Havana Carolina in Concord, NC is a close second. In fact, we make the hour and a half drive several times a year so he can get his Cuban fix.
Complete this sentence: We go together like ______. Brennan Huff and Dale Doback
When did you know he was "the one"? Did he know before you knew? I don't have a romantic "he's the one" story. In fact, if I'm being honest, I questioned it and fought him every step of the way. Looking back now I see how blind and ridiculous I was. He was nothing like any of the guys I'd dated before. He didn't "put on" for anyone (including my father) and was completely unapologetic about who he was, which drove me NUTS! We are both Aries and very head strong, so we power struggled quite a bit in the first year or two of our relationship. We are both independent and like things done our way which made for some epic arguments early on. But as mad as he made me, I kept coming back to him. I literally couldn't shake him. I remember saying "God, please explain to me why I like him so much, because I REALLY don't understand." Finally I got tired of questioning and fighting it and just let him in, and I hated I hadn't done it sooner. I have never laughed so much, cried so hard or loved so intensely in my entire life. He is truly my perfect match and I couldn't do life without him.
How did he propose? Were you surprised? Several of our friends and Zach's family went on vacation to Key West, FL last summer. He proposed in Mallory Square right at sunset. It was absolutely beautiful. We were surrounded by our closest friends and family. It could not have been more perfect.
When and where are you two getting married? What made you decide to get married here? We are getting married on October 20th, 2018 at Sunset Farms, located in Union, SC. It was the first venue we looked at, but neither of us felt the need to look any further. It is relatively close to where we live, it's absolutely stunning, and big enough to hold our large collection of family and friends.
What colors are you using for your wedding? We are using dusty/slate blue and just a few small pops of deep burgundy with cotton accents and a lot of greenery.
Describe your wedding in 3 words. Rustic, Romantic, Elegant
How would you describe the style of your wedding? Casual and intimate. Very rustic chic. The rustic barn and setting, with elegant accents.
What are your top 3 must-haves for your wedding? My mom and dad, my dream dress and my photographer (she's a gem!)
What is your favorite wedding blog or magazine? I don't have a favorite blog or magazine, but while I was dress shopping, I followed Wildflower Bridal in Asheville, NC on all social media (and still do, shhhh!). I just love their style and the designers/dresses they showcase. I actually fell in love with my dress on their Instagram and went all the way to Asheville to try it on!
What have you loved most about planning your wedding? Our engagement party! We got engaged in July and our parents threw us a Halloween themed engagement party in October and it was the coolest thing ever. The barn was decked out in spooky fixings and everyone wore costumes! We danced, ate, drank and kept wood burning in the fire pit. It was such a memorable night.
Are you guys going on a honeymoon? Why did you choose this location? What are you going to do? We are going to Hawaii for our honeymoon. With our wedding being in October, it will be hurricane season in several of the places that we researched. We both love to adventure so being able to be outside exploring is a must. September-November is the ideal time to visit Hawaii and there is so much to do there. It was the perfect fit for us!
What are you most excited about in your marriage? I am just excited to finally be able to call him my husband. He is such a good man and I cannot wait to plan and build our future together.
If you could give any future bride one piece of advice, what would you tell her? Don't rush the engagement! I know once you get engaged, it's natural to want to throw yourself into wedding planning head first. Don't do it! Give yourself time! You're going to be with this person for the rest of your life, so don't feel like you have to make it all happen right now. Give yourself a nice long engagement to actually enjoy the process of wedding planning and not have to stress or rush. I gave myself a year and 3 months and it was the best thing I've done. I haven't had to stress at all. I've been able to take on things one at a time and just enjoy the ride. It's been magical!
