This post is long overdue. Courtney and Chad were married in Charleston last September at The Cedar Room. With a neutral color palette, plenty of Southern details, a cigar rolling bar, a Bourbon Bar, a jazz band, a Motown band, and New Orleans-inspired details (like their second line), their brunch wedding was one for the books. Their custom branding elevated everything to the next level. We had such fun planning their wedding over the course of the year... and to see everything come together in beautiful, sunny Charleston, was PERFECT.
How long have you been together? Chad and I have been together for three years next month! While it's only been a few years, we feel like we've known each other forever! Most amazing three years of our lives.
What was your favorite moment and/or detail from your wedding? To pick one favorite moment or detail would be impossible! In terms of all the hard work that goes into wedding planning, my favorite moment was when we walked into our venue site and saw our 10-months of planning come to life! I just wish someone had captured the look of awe on my face! I highly recommend that brides take the time to see their venue before the guests arrive. One of my favorite photos is of my husband and me alone in the space, beaming with joy about what was about to occur! In terms of the big day itself, my favorite moment was walking down the aisle (to La Vie en Rose) and locking eyes with my almost-husband! There was no greater feeling than turning the corner, seeing all of our friends and family who had traveled to Charleston to be with us, and then seeing my almost-husband standing at the altar. I’ll remember that moment forever!
How was your experience working with us for your wedding? Working with Shannon and her team at Bespoken was absolutely amazing! It was so assuring to have an expert by my side the whole time. From bouncing ideas off her for months, to having her save the day when last minute hurdles presented themselves with rental items, such as our stage, and knowing I could turn everything over to her and just enjoy the big weekend, it was priceless!
What would you have done differently during your planning process? I would have hired Shannon earlier! Seriously, the first thing brides should do is pick a planner and then let them guide you through the rest. Shannon has so much experience and was so helpful because things that seemed big were no sweat for her.
Did you see each other before the wedding? If not, did you like waiting, or would you have done it differently? Tell us why and why not! Chad and I had our first look at the Planters Inn and then went to the Carolina Yacht Club for photos before the ceremony. I loved having that quiet time with Chad before our wedding and am so thankful for the amazing photos that we got of just the two of us.
Tell us about your dress! Where did you find it, how did you choose it, and how did you know it is the one? I found my dress with the help of Erin Krut at Buckhead Bridals! Erin helped me found the most beautiful Anne Barge gown that fit not only my style, but my vision for my wedding as well. Erin was amazing to work with, helping with the logistics of an out-of-state wedding and my something blue!
What were you most anxious, nervous, or fearful about regarding your wedding day, and what was the outcome? The weather! Chad and I decided to chance it and get married during hurricane season. I was prepared with a back-up plan if a hurricane hit right before the wedding, but I was caught off guard when an earlier than normal hurricane (Irma) threatened the holy city and our big day. Thankfully, Charleston was spared, and we had beautiful weather for our big weekend.
What wedding planning advice would you offer to couples who are currently planning their wedding? My biggest advice is to 1) never forget the reason behind the wedding. It’s easy to get wrapped into the craziness and stress, but at the end of the day the wedding is about you and your husband. You have to do what is best for the two of you; and 2) soak it all in and enjoy all of the excitement, from dress shopping, to bridal showers, to endless champagne toasts. Every bride has her stressful moments, be it the guest list or budget, but don’t let it get to you!
Any tips on what to bring/pack for your wedding day? Start packing early! Packing for a destination wedding is hard and takes a lot of logistics. There are lots of little things that you need but never really think of, so it’s a good idea to pack a few things ahead of time (deodorant, tissues, etc) that you can have someone keep track of for you during the day.
What was the first song you danced to as Newlyweds? Our first dance was to Leon Bridges “Coming Home,” but we were introduced to “When the Saints Go Marching In” with saints changed to Smiths to reflect our march into married life! It was the perfect touch to our Sunday jazz brunch wedding.
Any tips on how to prepare to work with Bespoken? Get organized! There are so many moving parts with planning a wedding that the more organized you are the better! This will help Shannon and her team assist you the best and ensure that nothing gets missed.
