We had the honor of helping Chase and Mekaela, two of the sweetest people, plan their Charleston wedding at Lowndes Grove Plantation. It was by far one of the most tender, meaningful weddings we've ever witnessed. With a strong focus on God, each other, and their families, these two lovebirds made sure that no moment was overlooked. The decor and details were simple, yet strong in meaning. The love between Chase and Mekaela is strong and steadfast, and this was one of those weekends where you walk away and never forget the emotion. Carrie Elizabeth captured the day so well. We'll let the photos and Chase and Mekaela tell you the story...
How did you two meet? We met through our home church in Virginia. Mekaela had served in an after school program with my parents years ago, although we had never met until this year. I would often hear my parents talk of this “wonderful sweetheart” Mekaela they met there. Fast forward several years, and the Lord led me to reach out to her despite having never met on December 11, 2016. We talked for 3 months over the phone nearly every night until we met in person for the first time in March 2017. We have been inseparable ever since. We know that Jesus made us for one another and the old adage “when you know, you know” made sense for the first time.
How long have you been together? We started talking in the winter of 2016 (December 11, 2016), started dating in March 2017 and got engaged three months later. In less then a year of meeting one another, we are now married!
What was your favorite moment and/or detail from your wedding? The ability to be fully present during our ceremony was an unforgettable gift. That's a one and only moment, looking into one another's eyes as we make our vows unto Jesus and each other was beautiful to share. We both felt His stillness overwhelm us.
How was your experience working with us for your wedding? Working with Bespoken was a huge blessing. The coordination and level of attentive detail helped us soak in the planning process even more. To be honest, it just kept getting better. We worked with them long distance as we planned our South Carolina wedding, while living in Florida. When it came to the wedding weekend, her team was flawless.
What would you have done differently during your planning process? Made sure more tastings were included - this was so much more fun than we thought.
How would you describe your overall wedding experience? Beyond Joyful.
Did you see each other before the wedding? If not, did you like waiting, or would you have done it differently? Tell us why and why not! We did! We highly suggest this! There is something about having that moment, just the two of you to hug, kiss and talk as a single couple. It's surreal.
Tell us about your dress! Where did you find it, how did you choose it, and how did you know it was "the one"? My dress was from a store in my hometown called Amanda's Touch. To be honest, it wasn't the style that I originally had in mind, but I went looking at wedding dresses with an open mind. Their shop was my first dress stop, and as I tried on dresses, there were some good potentials, but there was just "something different" about this dress -- an extra spark, a different feel, a uniqueness that simply made it feel, just right. We went to a second shop later that day, but I quickly realized I was comparing everything to that "one dress", so by the end of the day, it was a done deal. I had found the wedding dress of my dreams.
What was the first song you danced to as Newlyweds? Father-Daughter Dance song? Mother-Son Dance Song? We danced to "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran. Fun story: Mekaela asked her dad what song he wanted to dance to for the Father-Daughter dance. . He said, "Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. Chase asked his mom what song she wanted to dance to for the Mother-Son dance. She said, "Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. So we did a combined Father-Daughter and Mother-Son dance.
What were you most anxious, nervous, or fearful about regarding your wedding day, and what was the outcome? For us, being the center of attention wasn't something we were looking forward to as we steer more towards being private people. Other than that, not getting enough wedding cake (this is Chase).
What wedding planning advice would you offer to couples who are currently planning their wedding? Please plan your wedding together. Period. This is not just her special day or his special day. It is your one and only day like it.
Any tips on what to bring/pack for your wedding day? Your Bride. Your Groom. Tissues. Confetti.
